Blockhouse Bay Primary School - Ice cream Sundae Sale for Kidscan Charity

What an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G experience. As our inquiry topic this term was Change, Room 14 decided to explore the matters of science. We focused on the main three which are: Solids, Liquids and Gases. We did many fun experiments, one of which was making ice cream.

While making ice cream we discovered how liquids become solids and we realised how adding rock salt in our bag of ice sped up the solidifying process. It was very interesting. Once we made our yummy ice cream we decided as a class we could have an Ice cream Sundae Sale and raise money for a charity. We all researched different charities and Kidscan spoke to us the most. They are a charity that helps children with food, clothing and other things they might need. They even visit schools and are a very generous bunch of people.

The week before the ice cream sale was a very exciting one but also very busy. We were each given a job and a duty roster, some of the boys were the security guards and had to make sure to keep crowd control. We also had cashiers and sundae makers. It was thrilling. We wrote a speech and a small group of asked went to BLOCKHOUSE BAY COUNTDOWN and asked them if they could kindly donate ice cream and plastics for our cause. They were more then happy. We were very grateful to them for their generous hearts.

Finally the day came, WOW!! Thank you to all the parents in Room 14 who contributed sundae toppings and also ice cream spoons. Thank you to Roma (Savera's mum) and Gloria (Alex's mum) for offering their help and support. Guess what? Mr Cassidy's brother and sister, Tamahou and Sepora also helped and it was cool meeting them. In the end we raised $500!!!!!! Thank you Blockhouse bay!! A little went a VERY long way!!
