In our first week of Term 2, we went on our much anticipated trip to the beautiful Te Pane o Mataoho (Mangere Mountain). A lot of rainy weather postponed our trip last term so it was exciting to be greeted with blue skies and sunshine on Friday! Room 17 went along with our two tuakana teina classes, Room 18 and Room 3. For some children, it was the first time on a bus - so you can imagine how exciting just getting there was.
When we arrived, we sang the waiata 'He Honore' we had been practising as we were welcomed onto the marae and grounds. After learning a bit more about Te Pane o Mataoho and the people who used to live hundreds of years ago - we began our journey up!
As the littlest people of our school, Room 17 and 18 did so well on our hot and long trek up the maunga! We all got to see our city from a different view and learnt a lot about why places are important to who we are and our own special identity.
