In 2020, Blockhouse Bay School was one hundred years old! While celebrations were delayed until 2021 due to Covid 19, reaching this milestone was commemorated in many different ways. Past pupils, their families and staff were welcomed back to school with a Whākatau, School Tours, Official Welcome and Evening Celebration. Current students learned about what school was like one hundred years ago and all the changes that have happened in the past years.
Celebrations culminated with a Dance Festival and as a lasting reminder, a new Artwork, painted by children from each class, was installed on the wall of Te Whau, our Performing Arts Centre. Ten manu (birds), one representing each decade of the school’s existence, soar above the tamariki as they work and play.
